The Sarca River System
The Sarca River originates in the Dolomites region of the Italian Alp, springing from the Adamello-Presanella glacier range and flowing into Lake Garda. There are numerous tributaries and lakes in the Sarca river basin.
The Brenta River
The Brenta is an Italian river that runs from Trentino to the Adriatic Sea just south of the Venetian lagoon in the Veneto region, in the north-east of Italy. It is 174 kilometres (108 mi) long.
The Piave River
The Piave river originates in the Dolomites region of the Italian Alps and flows southeast for 220 kilometres (140 mi) into the Adriatic Sea near the city of Venice.
In 1809 it was the scene of a battle during the Napoleonic Wars, in which Franco-Italian and Austrian forces clashed.
In 1918, during World War I, it was the scene of Battle of the Piave River, the last major Austro-Hungarian attack on the Italian Front, which failed. The Battle of the Piave was the decisive battle of World War I on the Italian Front. The river is thus called in Italy Fiume Sacro alla Patria (Sacred River of the Homeland) and is mentioned in the patriotic song "La leggenda del Piave".
